Over the past few months, the 0xSplits team participated in Songcamp’s Camp Chaos, an 8-week experiment at the edges of music and crypto. 77 people came together online to create a “headless band”, Chaos, that will collectively release a catalog of music NFTs with unique artwork, a custom minting experience, podcasts, newsletters, and more.
Like many NFT projects, Splits are a core part of the payment infrastructure for Chaos. All revenue generated from primary and secondary sales will flow through Splits and be distributed among participants.
We joined Camp Chaos to build a new product on top of the 0xSplits protocol which allows Chaos members to freely trade into and out of ownership in a Split using NFTs. We’re calling it Liquid Splits, and we’re excited to share it with you today.
Today we're introducing Vesting Modules, the first extension to the 0xSplits protocol built natively into the app. A Vesting Module (like this one) is a smart contract that releases funds to a Mutable Split over a set period of time. They’re quick, easy, and cheap to set up, and they exist independently of the 0xSplits protocol. The contracts are on Github and you can learn more in the docs.
Vesting to a Mutable Split incentivizes ongoing contributions by enabling funds collected today to be distributed over time among a changing group of recipients. We're particularly excited about this module because of 1) the implications it has for building a broader extension ecosystem, and 2) how this extension is being used to fund public goods today.
The Vesting Module is the first of many extensions that will be going live in the app over the coming months. The 0xSplits protocol was designed to be as composable & interoperable as possible, making it easy and permissionless for anyone to develop their own extensions. We've received great ideas from the community about additional extensions and we’re excited about all the problems that can be solved by building extensions above or below the 0xSplits protocol. Vesting Modules are live in the app today, and you can expect more extensions to drop in the next few weeks.
Today we’re introducing 0xSplits, the protocol for trustless, composable, gas-efficient splits. It’s non-upgradable, completely free to use, and entirely onchain. 0xSplits is a piece of permanent infrastructure—in the form of a hyperstructure—and it’s live on Ethereum today. Give it a try at split.new.
Splits are foundational building blocks upon which onchain collaboration will flourish. Multisends, multisigs, DAOs—they’re all fantastic tools, but sometimes what you need is something far simpler, lighter, and more automated. Splits are just that. They’re lightweight, cheap to create, easy to integrate, and extremely composable. Ultimately, they establish trust and remove burden.
When Mirror introduced splits, we were inspired by this simple idea—a contract that continuously splits incoming funds among recipients according to preset ownership percentages. It’s a simple concept with big implications, but we know that simple doesn’t mean easy.
